Lexi Meace | Fashion Designer
Crochet fashion experienced a renaissance at the beginning of the 2020’s as people found new outlets for creativity that they could undertake in solitude. Twenty-three year old Lexi Meace, hailing from Brooklyn, New York, is an innovator to this space.
An artist from an early age, Lexi dabbled in lots of different art mediums, having a degree from the School of Visual Arts in photography and video; but crochet and fashion design have become her true passions. Part of what makes her work unique is that she doesn’t use patterns, and she is completely self taught, having no prior knowledge of knitwear or design.
| INSPIRATIONS
Besides capitalism, her love of clothes is the main thing that inspires her to keep making things. She’s enjoyed 7 years of thrifting every weekend, as well as working at a second hand store where she sifts through clothes for hours, loving every second of it. She sees many possibilities within the garments, seeing things and thinking to herself “I wish this was different” or “I wish it had this”. Lexi is also influenced by pieces she sees online or clothes that she would wear personally. The fusion of pretty and punk — exemplified in brands from the late 90’s/early 2000s like Betsey Johnson — are amongst her personal favorites. Overall, Lexi’s work is a pure expression of her love for drafting ideas and bringing them into reality.
Lexi is living proof of the advice she was once given: "As an artist, trust yourself and your ability to put your own style in your work".
