Emily Nikolova | Hair and Makeup Artist
As a freelance hair and makeup artist who does anything from fashion editorials to horror films, Emily Nikolova loves to direct her own projects and infuse her work with whimsy and ethereal charm. Her makeup journey began in the days when she was merely an art-driven teen that obsessed over painting on a blank canvas, with no references other than her imagination and her favorite songs and series. She tells us that she now does the same, but, “on faces rather than paper and with slightly more expensive brushes”. Emily gets inspired by her own life or the life she’s dreaming of living - one with less judgement, less rules, experimentation, and more freedom. She is a firm believer in the law of attraction, and declared that a few years ago, she started wishing for certain goals in her personal and professional life, and they came to fruition! She further expressed to us, “The energy that you put into everything matters, a bad attitude towards your issues won't make them disappear. It's almost a trend nowadays to romanticize your life, I recommend you try it and see how it makes you feel. We all have this vision of our "ideal self" in our heads that seems so distant or even unobtainable, but it doesn't have to be.”
| ADVICE
The key advice that she left us with was: “Don’t let small things or small people pull you away from who you want to be - your mindset and your path is in your control. If you want to create something weird that nobody understands or wants to help you with, make it happen anyway. Art doesn't have to be relatable to anyone else, as long as it's relatable to you and it gives you that warm feeling of pride and comfort. Stop trying to fit in, it's not worth it.”
