Yue Qing Wei | Fashion Designer and Creative Director   

Interdisciplinary thinking is always a benefit to creativity. Fundamental to creativity is the ability to make connections that are novel, which is much easier to do when one has more diverse sources of inspiration. Fashion designer Yue Qing Wei explores the value of interdisciplinary thinking in several dimensions, not just through her interest in different fields of study, but also drawing on her cross cultural background as a Chinese-Canadian living in London. 

Style and Design

Her designs are heavily centered around the movements of the human body, and how we express speed, strength, and energy; which in turn is illuminated by her particular interests in drawing and dancing. Equally impactful to her personal techniques is the art of painting, and the dichotomy between the elegant strokes of Chinese ink and the more expressionistic methods in Western art. Being familiar with these different styles of interpretation helps Yue to mold her own perceptions of what a garment’s shape, weight, and structure should look like.

Keenly aware of how difficult it is to navigate the fashion industry, Yue moves through it with an empowered attitude, thinking in phrases like, “I can”, “I will”, and “I am”. A graduate of the University of Ravensbourne, London, Yue has been regularly engaged with philosophy and personal growth, which has given her work more empirical depth. Through her self examination, she has learned the exemplary lesson to “never give up, and take every event as an opportunity to learn”. Her educated worldview has given her the gift of discernment on the elements that matter in life and in work.
